Libya unrest affects OECS
St. Lucia’s Foreign Minister Rufus Bousquet says promised aid to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) from Libya is now under threat, as a result of the continued efforts by rebel forces to overthrow the government of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddaffi.
Bouquet said there are likely to be delays in implementing some of the agreements that Libya has signed with countries of the sub-regional OECS.
He said these include the proposed establishment of a US$100 million investment bank in St. Kitts-Nevis and an embassy to be located in St. Lucia.
Both projects were announced by Gaddaffi last year.
The unrest in Libya began in February with rebel forces backed by western countries seeking to overthrow the four-decades old Gaddafi regime.
