Objections to minimum wage increase
The Trade Union Council in Grenada wants the government to stand by its decision to raise the minimum wage by December.
The Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce said it wants the Tillman Thomas administration to review the plans to increase the minimum wage, arguing that recession-hit businesses cannot afford to meet the proposed wages.
However, vice president of the Trade Union Council Chester Humphrey believes reversing that decision would not be the best thing.
He said social justice cannot be achieved by flip flopping and so the government must stick to its decision as the majority of the Grenadian people support the minimum wage increase.
The government has indicated that it plans to increase the minimum wage for 12 categories of workers.
