Belize’s Defence Minister Carlos Perdomo has announced that he will not contest the upcoming general election, scheduled for next year.
Perdomo, who is the representative in the Caribbean Shores division in Belize City, cites health reasons for his decision to step down even though he was recently selected by ruling United Democratic Party to contest in the next general elections.
He is to remain as a government minister and will serve for the rest of his term.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow publicly thanked the former defence minister for his years of service and announced that a convention to choose his successor will be held December 4.
