Reggae Boyz match draw
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz battled to an away 1-1 draw with Canada last night at the BMO Field in Toronto to get their semi-final round World Cup qualifying off to a good start.
Julian de Guzman had given the Canadian a 48th minute lead, but Andy Williams levelled the scores four minutes later from a corner kick.
In another game in the group, Mexico defeated Honduras 2-1 in Mexico City.
Four teams, Mexico, Honduras, Canada and Jamaica are in the group.
The top two teams will advance from this home-and-away format to the final round, which will be contested next year.
From the final round the top three teams will qualify for the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals.
The fourth-placed team will then battle the fifth-placed team from the South American Confederation for another place in the World Cup Finals.
In Group ‘C’ games, Haiti and Suriname battled to a 2-2 draw, while Costa Rica edged El Salvador 1-0.
Over in Group ‘A’, US defeated Guatemala 1-0, while Trinidad and Tobago beat Cuba 3-1.
