Bermudian gang member imprisoned
A 25-year-old Bermudian man who shot a former friend after they joined rival gangs has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for attempted murder.
Prosecutors believe the attempted murder was revenge by Noet Barnett, a member of the 42 Gang, against the victim, Jeremiah Dill, who is a member of the Parkside gang.
Three of Barnett’s cousins, who had links to the 42 Gang, had been murdered the months before he shot Dill.
Barnett is said to have blamed the Parkside gang, and police believe he shot Dill in a bid to avenge the deaths.
Dill was attacked by Barnett in broad daylight, as he chatted with friends outside a grocery store in Pembroke in October 2010.
The gun Barnett used to shoot Dill was found in bushes more than 11 weeks after the attack.
Barnett’s DNA was found on the gun.
A ballistics expert linked the weapon, to the shooting of Dill and three other shootings in Bermuda, all believed to have been attacks on Parkside gang members.
In December, a jury found Bartlett guilty of attempted murder, gun possession and handling a firearm.
