Regional education ministers are to meet in Suriname next week to hold discussions aimed at strengthening the role of teachers.

The two-day meeting which is being coordinated by the Organisation of American States, OAS, will be held in Paramaribo starting March 1.

In a statement released yesterday, the OAS said the education ministers will be meeting to analyze the current status of the teaching profession in the region, and propose policies and strategies to strengthen the role of educators.

The OAS says the meeting will seek to determine the kind of teaching students now require and the role governments can play to ensure quality education for all.
