Authorities in Haiti said the number of people killed in the wake of Tropical Storm Hanna has risen to more than 90.

A third of those killed were in the north-eastern city of Gonaives, the worst hit area, where 70,000 people are staying in shelters.

Floodwaters have left tens of thousands of people cut off from aid as they are still to be rescued.

Neighbouring Bahamas also took a beating from Hanna.

Stephen Russell, the Director of the National Emergency Management Agency in that country said there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities, but there was minimal damage in some islands in the southeast.

Officials in the Bahamas are also keeping an eye on Hurricane Ike and Tropical Storm Josephine, which are behind Hanna.
