Beijing Olympic hero Usain Bolt is scheduled to arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston this afternoon at 1.15 p.m.

Bolt, who created history when he became the first man to win the Olympic 100 and 200 metres in world record times, will be welcomed with a lavish motorcade and reception.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding, Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller and Sports Minister Olivia Grange will meet Bolt on the tarmac as he steps off a Virgin Atlantic flight.

The 22 year old sprint sensation will be transported to the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston for a press conference.

Bolt’s welcome will launch the start of several activities planned to commence in October, when all other members of Jamaica’s Beijing Olympic team return to the island.

Bolt ended his season on Friday, when he won his showdown with compatriot Asafa Powell at the Van Damme Memorial in Brussels, Belgium.

He raced to a fast 9.77 seconds to claim the 100 metres ahead of Powell, who clocked 9.83.
