Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham has announced that General Elections will be held on May 7.
In a national address, Ingraham said he has advised the Governor General to dissolve Parliament.
However, he did not announce a date for Nomination Day.
The Prime Minister said the Parliament will meet on May 23, which he noted will be exactly five years from the first sitting of the present Parliament.
In the last general election, the Free National Movement won 23 seats with the Progressive Liberal party headed by former Prime Minister Perry Christie winning the remaining 18 seats.
