T &T rejects Redjet meeting

Transport Minister Devant Maharaj has turned down a request by officials from the Barbados-based low-budget carrier REDjet for a meeting weeks after the airline suspended its services to various regional destinations.

Maharaj says he will not meet with the officials at REDjet until they have secured an Air Operators Certificate from the Barbados Government.

Last month, the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority said it had revoked the licence of REDjet effective March 30, since the Barbados Civil Aviation Department had advised REDjet that it was suspending the Air Operators Certificate.

Meanwhile, employees at the financially-troubled airline have been told they will receive their salaries next week after more than two weeks of waiting.

The Barbados-based WEEKEND NATION newspaper says passengers affected by the suspension of all REDjet flights are still awaiting their refunds.
