Bones found not those of former Grenada PM

An ecumenical organisation in Grenada today claimed that bones discovered in a public cemetery there were not those of the country’s former prime minister and other cabinet colleagues who were killed in a coup 28 years ago.

Former Grenadian Prime Minister Maurice Bishop and several cabinet minister and civilians were executed in 1984, but there have been questions about the location of his remains.

Forensic anthropologists have discovered bones and other remains from the graves where they were buried.

However, Father Seon Doggett, a spokesman for the Grenada Conference of Churches, GCC, says those remains have been easily identified as not belonging to Mr Bishop.

The GCC is leading a project to find out what happened to the remains.
