Maldon beat Herbert Morrison
Maldon High School began their campaign on a good note yesterday with an upset 2-1 victory over two-time champions Herbert Morrison in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup football competition.
The Zone ‘A’ game was played at Herbert Morrison’s home ground at Bogue in Montego Bay.
Jermaine Jackson, penalty, and Obrian Robinson scored for Maldon High, while Herbert Morrison’s goal came from Brishnell Dawkins.
In another Zone ‘A’ game in Montego Bay, newcomer Green Pond High and Irwin High battled to a goalless draw at Irwin High School.
In Zone ‘K’, Iona hammered Islington 7-0 at Rio Nuevo, Tacky edged Brimmervale 1-0 at home and St Mary Technical beat Oracabessa 1-0 at Eden Park.
The competition continues this afternoon with 15 games across five zones.
In the Manning Cup competition, Calabar High defeated Ascot High 5-0 in Group ‘B’ to record the biggest victory on the day.
Also in Group ‘B’, Waterford and St Mary’s College played to a goalless draw.
Over in Group ‘A’, Campion beat Tarrant 3-0 Tivoli got by Norman Manley 1-0 and Charlie Smith outscored Spanish Town 3-2.
In Group ‘E’, Ardenne edged Camperdown 3-2, Excelsior blanked Greater Portmore 3-0 and St George’s defeated Dunoon 5-2.
The competition continues this afternoon with eight games in three groups.
