Fraser/Buckley return home
Beijing Olympic 100-metre champion Shelly-Ann Fraser returned home last night after ending her season on a high in Stuttgart, Germany on Sunday.
Fraser won the 100-metre dash at the World Athletics Final in Germany, beating Olympic silver medallist and fellow Jamaican Kerron Stewart.
Fraser breezed home in 10.94, leaving Stewart comfortable behind on a cool and windy day.
Also arriving home yesterday was hurdler Markino Buckley, who finished fourth in the 400-metre hurdles at the World Athletics Final. Buckley clocked 49.52.
The athletes returned just a week, after the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt was welcomed home with a lavish motorcade and reception.
The Government is planning to stage four days of celebration to honour the athletes for their achievements. The celebrations are to commence on October 3, at which time all the athletes should return home.
The celebration will see a motorcade taking the athletes through the Corporate Area and will culminate with a massive salute at the National Stadium.
There will also be a series of other activities, including a motorcade in western Jamaica, as well as community visits by the athletes.
