St. Lucia minister email hacked
Scammers have hacked into the email account of the St. Lucian Minister for Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs and have been soliciting money from unsuspecting persons.
Concerns were raised in the country after the emergence of an email purportedly sent out by Emma Hippolyte requesting assistance, after being mugged while on vacation with her family.
However, in a statement, the Office of the Prime Minister, said the email was not sent by or on behalf of Emma Hippolyte and may be as a result of the Minister’s account being hacked into.
The statement said Hippolyte is currently in London, England on State business and is due back on the island on Thursday, June 14.
It noted that there has been an ongoing scam designed to extort money from unsuspecting individuals.
The Office has advised members of the public to discard the email and ignore the request, as the information contained in it is bogus.
