South African President Thabo Mbeki along with Finance Minister Trevor Manuel and nine other cabinet members have resigned.
Mr. Mbeki is to leave office on Thursday, following accusations that he interfered in the prosecution of the African National Congress (ANC), Jacob Zuma on corruption charges.
The ANC is reportedly divided between supporters of Mr. Mbeki and Mr. Zuma.
As ANC leader, Zuma is said to be the favourite to become South Africa\'s next president.
A statement from the presidency said the resignations of 10 ministers, three deputy ministers and Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka would also be effective on Thursday.
The ANC said its deputy leader Kgalema Motlanthe is to replace Mbeki as president until next year\'s elections.
