Grenada PM moves to save government

Prime Minister of Grenada Tillman Thomas has made another effort to save his government.

In a national broadcast aired last night, Prime Minister Thomas addressed the filing of a second motion of no confidence against his government.

That motion was filed by his former foreign affairs minister Karl Hood.

Noting that Hood has indicated a desire to join the opposition New National Party (NNP), Thomas said the latest motion was highly unpatriotic, reckless, self-serving and disrespectful of the people of Grenada.

Thomas noted said the previous NNP administration had racked up $2 billion in debt which he claims was spent recklessly.

He said his governing National Democratic Congress has had to be repaying the debt and cautioned Grenadians against returning the NNP to power.

In May, Prime Minister Thomas survived a motion of no confidence by an eight to five margin and political observers say he now faces an uphill task this time around to keep the government from collapsing.
