St Lucia Opposition Leader denies he is being ousted

Leader of St Lucia’s main opposition United Workers Party, Stephenson King, has dismissed reports of attempts to remove him as party leader.

King has come under increasing pressure to step down after he led the party to defeat in the November 28 general elections last year.

He has expressed confidence he will be re-elected to the post at the party’s next convention in 2013.

Party officials have been meeting behind privately to discuss the issue, but King says the party had agreed on the establishment of a management committee to oversee the long overdue convention.
