Jamaican jockey Jermaine Bridgmohan piloted the three-year-old colt Ikigai to a narrow victory in the US$50,000 Kaiser Stakes at Calder in Miami, Florida over the weekend.

A seven-to-five favourite in the nine-horse field, Ikigai won the five-furlong sprint by a head for trainer Martin Wolfson and owner Edmund Gann.

Ikigai clocked a decent 58.60 seconds in victory on a sloppy track.

It was the first stakes outing for Ikigai, who dueled with Machismo (4-1) before taking the lead heading into the turn.

He opened a four-length lead in the stretch before the seven to one bet Dukes Flying Tiger, from the barn of Jamaican trainer Kirk Ziadie started gaining.
