The Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Housing is pledging to build more than 8,000 houses in the coming fiscal year.

The ministry said they will be vigilantly watching for those who make a false declaration to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in order to get a house.

It added anyone doing so will forfeit the property and face imprisonment.

Minister of Housing, Tina Gronlund-Nunez, said there are more than 100,000 applications to the HDC and that 50 per cent of applicants earn less than $4,000 Trinidad and Tobago dollars.
