Teachers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are reportedly restive over the government’s public sector reclassification project.

Talks between the teachers union and the government regarding the project have reportedly been unsuccessful.

The project assesses and re-grades positions in the civil service.

President of the Teachers Union, Joy Mathews, said the new system actually results in reduced pay levels.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is urging the teachers not to take industrial action.

He is also urging them to accept the new system.
