Facing what he describes as the largest fiscal deficit in the Caribbean, St Lucia's prime minister, Dr Kenny Anthony is preparing to address the nation on the economic challenges facing the island.
Dr Anthony says whereas other Caribbean states might have a fiscal deficit of seven to eight per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), St Lucia’s is climbing up to 10 per cent.
In his address, Dr Anthony, who is also finance minister, is expected to outline the economic difficulties facing the island amid calls from public sector trade unions for increased salaries for their members.
