Restrictions eased on Cyprus' domestic economy

Published:Saturday | March 30, 2013 | 8:03 AM

The Central Bank of Cyprus has eased some of the restrictions imposed as the nation's banks reopened, following an international bailout deal.

The Central Bank said debit and credit cards can be used normally for domestic payments.

It further said that this would be reviewed on a daily basis adding that it will try to refine the provisions when possible.

The move is an attempt to make it as easy as possible for the domestic economy, while preventing the outflow of funds from the island.

Cyprus needs to raise 5.8 billion euros to qualify for the bailout, and has become the first eurozone member country to bring in capital controls.
