West Indies against Pakistan
West Indies captain Chris Gayle hit the first-ever century at the Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates today to guide his team to 294 for nine in the first one-day international against Pakistan.
Gayle made 113 runs by hitting five sixes and 11 fours in just 106 balls, beating the previous highest score in Abu Dhabi of 92 by India’s Rahul Dravid against Pakistan.
Pakistan are now replying. The Pakistanis were 124 for one after 26 overs.
Lionel Baker had taken the only wicket to fall by bowling Salman Butt for 44.
On his way to his century, Gayle had two important partnerships. He added 125 runs for the first wicket with Sewnarine Chattergoon, who scored 33, and 73 runs for the second wicket with Ramnaresh Sarwan, 55.
Top batsman Shivnarine Chanderpual chipped in with 36 and Xavier Marshall got 26.
Bowling for Pakistan, paceman Sohail Tanveer ended with three for 42 and Umar Gul three for 66.
The remaining two matches in the series will be played n Friday and Sunday.
