IMF cuts growth forecast for global economy

Published:Tuesday | October 8, 2013 | 2:52 PM

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has trimmed its forecast for global economic growth.

It says it now expects global growth of 2.9 per cent this year, a cut of 0.3 per cent from July's estimate.

In 2014 it expects global growth of 3.6 per cent, down 0.2 per cent.

It cited weakness in emerging economies for the cut.

The IMF says the change in forecast is due in part to expectations of a change in policy by United States central bank the Federal Reserve.
