JFF coaches sacked

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has dismissed the four coaches assigned to the National Women’s Programme in a major shake-up at the organisation.

Among the persons who lost their jobs was Charles Edwards, the women’s senior team coach.

Under-20 coach Xavier Gilbert, Under-17 coach Junior Francis and Under-15 coach Oneil Thompson were all dismissed.

Administrative staff will also be affected.

The shake-up came just a week after the failure of Jamaica’s senior football team to advance to the final round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers.

JFF’s boss Captain Horace Burrell said the federation was forced to downsize in order to remain viable.

He said with Jamaica failing to qualify for CONCACAF final round qualifiers, the federation now faces tremendous challenges similar to those, which the financial sector is experiencing.

With the Reggae Boyz failure to advance, a projected $170 million was lost based on gate receipts from the five home matches that the team would have played.

The JFF also lost out on a payment of US$350,000 from equipment sponsor, Kappa.
