St Vincent gov't case against teachers dismissed by court

A High Court judge has dismissed an application by the St Vincent and the Grenadines government to strike out a case involving three teachers who were not re-employed after resigning to contest the December 2010 general elections.



Attorney Jomo Thomas, a government senator, who is representing the Teachers Union, said the ruling was an important preliminary victory.



The three teachers were not rehired after they contested the elections for the main opposition New Democratic Party.



Another teacher, Elvis Charles, ran for the ruling Unity Labour Party.



Charles, who was also defeated in the election, was however appointed a Government senator and has since been hired as manager of the state-owned Housing and Land Development Corporation.
