The West Indies team spent a long and unrewarding day in the field on the first day of their three-day cricket tour match against the Auckland Aces today in Auckland, New Zealand.

The home team led by former New Zealand batsman Richard Jones, who made an unbeaten 186, reached 359 for two by stumps at Eden Park.

Fidel Edwards and Lionel Baker were the wicket takers for the West Indies.

West Indies leave out fast bowlers Jerome Taylor and Daren Powell. Their attack comprised mainly Fidel Edwards, Kemar Roach, Baker and left-arm spin bowler Sulieman Benn.

The match is the only warm-up West Indies will have before the first of two Tests against New Zealand starting at Dunedin next Thursday.
