Alsafra fails in Caribbean Classic

Jamaica’s Triple Crown winner Alsafra finished eighth of 13 runners in yesterday’s US$300,000 Caribbean Classic at the Hipodromo Camarero racetrack in Puerto Rico.



The race was run on a muddy track.



Alsafra backed at odds of 9-to-1 was ridden for the first time by overseas-based Jamaican jockey Andrew Ramgeet.



Sicotico won the race with jockey Joel Roario.



Sicotico won on the nine-furlong event in 1-minute 52.54 seconds by one-and-a-half lengths from Puerto Rico’s Crisistal de oro.



Defensora, the race favourite, also from Puerto Rico, ended up third another half-length behind.
