The Grenada parliament has approved increased fines for foreign vessels fishing illegally in local waters.
Fisheries Minister Roland Bhola said the new fine of EC$500,000 amends a typographical error when the legislation was first passed in 1986 and the fine of EC$5,000 was included.
Local fishermen who engage in illegal fishing will face a maximum fine of EC$10,000.
