Antigua PM wants free movement of goods in OECS

Published:Monday | July 28, 2014 | 11:06 AM

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, has called for the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to consider allowing the unrestricted circulation of commercial goods within the group.

The outgoing OECS Chairman, Browne also told the opening of the 59th meeting of the OECS Monetary Authority and the OECS Heads of Government, that the sub-grouping needs to seek new ways to respond to the economic woes of members.

While acknowledging that the free circulation of goods is a revenue-sensitive matter, he said a way can be found to remove the present restrictions on the movement of goods between member states and therefore stimulate OECS cross-border trade.

According to the Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister, member states are being affected by international economic turbulence and they need to integrate their resources.
