Antigua gov't assures creditors of payment
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has given an assurance that it intends to meet its obligations to all its creditors.
And the country’s newly appointed Governor General Dr Rodney Williams says the Gaston Browne administration is intent on turning the island into an economic powerhouse in the Caribbean.
Williams was delivering the traditional Throne Speech a day after he was sworn into office.
He did not disclose the size of the country’s debt, but says the government plans to meet its obligations to domestic and foreign creditors by growing the economy, while keeping expenditure within manageable limits.
Williams says this will be done by taking steps that will attract foreign direct investment in significant amounts over the next 12 months.
