Vere win Clarendon tournament
Vere Technical High School yesterday defeated Glenmuir High by 167 runs at Bushy Park in May Pen to win the inaugural Clarendon Cricket Association’s Parish high schools competition for the Williams/Dennis Memorial Trophy.
Batting first, Vere Technical recovered from 84 for five to post 211 for eight off their 30 overs with all-rounder Gifton Wray top scoring with 70. He received support from Owaine Holness 35, Owen Francis 26 and Gareth Brown 24.
Bowling for Glenmuir, Alex Young bagged three for 33 from five overs, while Roberto Smith and Chad Hylton ended with two wickets each.
Needing 212 for victory, Glenmuir was bowled out for 44 in 10 point 1 overs against the bowling of pacer Fernando Black, who took six wickets for six runs off five overs.
