Powell to open 2009 meet

Former 100-metre world record holder Asafa Powell of MVP track club will open his 2009 season on Saturday at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson meet which will take place at the Stadium East.
Four other MVP athletes will also open their season at the meet. They are Olympic gold medallists Shelly-Ann Fraser, Melaine Walker and Nesta Carter, along with Olympic silver meallist Shericka Williams.
Olive McNaughton, chairperson of the organising committee, made the announcement yesterday at a press conference at The Queen’s School in Kingston.
More than 2,000 athletes from across the island are down to participate at the meet.
