The 2009 edition of the Gibson Relays, one of the most prestigious meets on the local track and field calendar, was launched earlier this afternoon at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.

The Relays, which is a qualifying meet for this summer’s World Championships in Germany, will take place on February 28 at the National Stadium.

On show will be the best of Jamaica’s track and field talent from prep and primary schools to high schools and men’s and women’s clubs and institutions.

A number of overseas teams are also expected to compete.

Chairman and member of the Organizing Committee Errol Green said athletes from Canada, Korea and Puerto Rico are expected to arrive in the country for the meet.

The meet will feature 38 events including eight championship races.

Record breakers at the meet will be rewarded with cash incentives courtesy of Pepsi Cola Jamaica through its product Gatorade.

The sponsors have put up 500 thousand dollars to share among record breakers.
