South Africa displaced Australia at the top of the International Cricket Council’s one-day rankings after securing a 39-run win against the world champions in Perth, Australia today.

The Proteas had already wrapped up the five-match series as they headed into the final game at the WACA Ground.

They had also won the Test series.

The South Africans chose to bat and were anchored by a calm 97 from 117 balls by Hashim Amla, who shared 118 in 23 overs with AB de Villers, who made 60 off 71.

JP Duminy hit an unbeaten 60 off 42 with three sixes to take South Africa to 288 for six.

Mike Hussey made 78 and Brad Haddin 63 but debutant seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe’s four for 50 saw Australia all out for 249.
