England/West Indies first Test continues
West Indies will resume this morning on 160 for one chasing England’s first innings total of 318 in the opening Test at Sabina Park in Kingston.
Captain Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan hit unbeaten half-centuries on yesterday’s second day to put the Caribbean team in a strong position.
Left-hander Gayle is undefeated on 71 while Sarwan is 74 not out in a second-wicket partnership of 142 runs.
England added only 82 runs to their overnight 236 for five with Matt Prior contributing 64.
Left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn collected career-best figures of four for 77. Pacer Jerome Taylor took three for 74 and Daren Powell two for 54.
England started well when Andrew Flintoff one for 24 removed Devon Smith at 18 for one after a TV review overturned a not out decision by umpire Tony Hill of New Zealand.
