US President Barack Obama has described the Senate\'s delay in passing his 900 billion dollar economic stimulus package as inexcusable and irresponsible.
The bill includes measures to cut taxes and invest in job creation.
Mr Obama is adamant that the economic situation could become a catastrophe if the Senate fails to act.
Moderate Democrat and Republican senators are arguing that the plan should be trimmed by up to 90 billion dollars.
Mr. Obama said news that nearly 600 thousand Americans lost their jobs in January is devastating.
He said urgent action is needed to control the situation.
