Jerome Taylor has become the highest-ranked West Indies Test bowler since the retirement of Courtney Walsh in 2001 following his impressive performance against England in the first Test of a four-match series, which ended on Saturday.

Playing in front of a home crowd at Sabina Park, the 24 year old Jamaican had match figures of eight for 85, including five for 11 in the second innings as England were dismissed for 51 in 33 point 2 overs.

His effort has pushed him up 11 places to sixth spot in the International Cricket Council’s Player Rankings for Test bowlers.

Left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn, another hero from West Indies’ dramatic victory on Saturday, has also moved up the ratings table as a result.

Benn has moved 20 places to 52nd, after grabbing four wickets in England’s disastrous second innings to finish the match with eight for 108 runs.

Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan remains on top of the rankings.

West Indies captain Chris Gayle moved up four places to 15th position in the rankings for Test batsmen after scoring his ninth Test century in the match.

The other main mover in the batting list is West Indies Number 3 batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan, whose century has earned him four places and puts him in 22nd position.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul remains firmly on top of the batting rankings, despite his failure in the first Test.
