Alsafra, Horse of the Year
Triple Crown winner Alsafra was last night crowned Horse of the Year at the 20th None Such/Horse of the Year dinner at the Hilton Hotel in New Kingston.
The classy filly, trained by Fitznahum Williams, which as a three-year-old last season won six races and just over nine million in stakes, also won awards as champion three-year-old and champion native-bred horse.
She also won a number of sectional awards in the three year-old category, including best three-year-old female stayer and middle distance performer.
First runner-up to Horse of the Year was Superstakes winner Ad Infinitum, which is trained by Anthony Nunes, while Chadman, which hails from the stables of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, was voted second runner up.
Chadman was also named champion middle distance performer and champion foreign-bred horse.
The Dacosta-trained filly Ahwhofah was named champion sprinter, while Ad Infinitum was named champion stayer and champion older horse.
The coveted None Such award to a person or organization whose lifetime endeavours in the field of thoroughbred racing have embodied excellence, innovation and leadership was presented to Barbados-based Elias Haloute, owner of Superstakes winner Ad Infinitum.
