Guyana bauxite industry concerns

Guyana\'s Prime Minister Samuel Hinds is expressing concern that the global slump in alumina demand will force the closure of a key bauxite plant in the south-eastern part of the country.
According to Mr. Hinds, the Russian Aluminium Company (RUSAL) has had to lower this year\'s export targets by half, because of the state of the global market.
RUSAL is the world\'s second largest producer of aluminum.
Mr. Hinds said the government is ready to step in to cushion the impact a closure will have on residents and workers.
