A brave batting display from the tail-enders saw the West Indies claim a superb draw in the third cricket Test yesterday to deny England a series-levelling victory in Antigua.

The home side looked set for defeat at 322 for eight, but resilient batting from Daren Powell 22 not out, assisted by Sulieman Benn 21 and Fidel Edwards 5 not out, rescued the match.

West Indies, set an improbable 503 for victory after resuming yesterday on 143 for three, ended on 370 for nine when bad light halted play.

Ramnaresh Sarwan hit a fine 106 as he and Shivnarine Chanderpaul 55 offered early resistance for West Indies in a partnership of 148 for the fourth wicket.

Stuart Broad and off spinner Graeme Swann ended with three wickets each.

West Indies captain Chris Gayle described the draw as a victory for the Caribbean team.

England Captain Andrew Strauss thinks his bowlers did a good job despite failing to dismiss the last pair.

The West Indies lead the five Tests series 1-nil following victory in Jamaica.

The third test in the series takes place at Kensington Oval in Barbados from February 26 to March 2.
