Jamaicans Stefanie Taylor and Shanel Daley provided vital performances for West Indies as they snatched a narrow two-wicket win over South Africa in their opening International Cricket Council Women’s World Cup match yesterday in Australia.

The 17 year old Taylor grabbed four wickets for 17 runs with her off-spin to help restrict South Africa to 116 in 45 point 2 overs.

There was a wicket each for pacers Kirbyina Alexander, Debbie-Ann Lewis and Shakera Selman.

Needing 117 to win, Daley top-scored for West Indies with 26 to lead the Caribbean side to the target off 48 point 4 overs.

In the other Group ‘A’ match, New Zealand upset defending champions Australia by 13 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis Method at North Sydney Oval.
