No motive for Alabama shooting
Investigators in southern Alabama are trying to determine what caused a man to open fire on family members and several other people yesterday afternoon.
Eleven people, including the gunman, died in the shooting.
The Department of Public Safety described the shooting as the single deadliest crime recorded in Alabama.
Clay King, mayor of Samsom, Alabama, where some of the shootings took place, said he knew the shooter, Michael McLendon, and all of the victims.
Officials said the gunman was briefly employed as a police officer in Samson, but failed to complete the required training. They said McLendon had no known criminal record.
Authorities have also confirmed that he shot his mother before setting her house ablaze with her in it.
Those killed included his grandparents, his aunt and uncle, the wife and child of a sheriff\'s deputy, and three other people.
