The opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) has filed high court petitions challenging the results of last week’s general election in four constituencies.

The governing United Progressive Party (UPP) won 9 seats, the Antigua Labour Party 9, and the Barbuda People\'s Movement 1.

Lawyers for the party have asked the court to overturn the results because of alleged irregularities.

The seats are held by Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, finance minister Harold Lovell and agriculture minister Hilson Baptiste.

The ALP is also challenging a seat in Barbuda, which the labour party lost by one vote after a recount.

The UPP has said it may also file writs in two constituencies, including that held by Labour leader Lester Bird.
