TCI Cabinet sworn in
A new Cabinet has been sworn in to govern the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Governor Gordon Wetherell administered the Oath of Allegiance to six new ministers, who will serve under the leadership of Galmore Williams who took over as Premier earlier this week.
The new Williams Cabinet is likely to be in charge for only the next six weeks.
Wetherell says he expects a final report from the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of rampant corruption among senior local officials in the British overseas territory.
Depending on the content of that document, legal action could be required against those named in it, he added.
Michael Misick, who led the government for the past six years, stepped down as Premier on Monday.
He had earlier appeared before the Commission, which probed into his personal finances and his stewardship of public funds.
The British government has also threatened to suspend the territory’s constitution and impose direct rule for at least two years as a result of the findings of the Commission of Inquiry.
