Secretary General of CARICOM, Edwin Carrington has been summoned to give evidence before the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) next Tuesday in the legal battle between Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) and CARICOM.

Former St Lucia Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony and Dominica-born Senior Counsel Anthony Astaphan will represent CARICOM at the two day-hearing.

Carrington has already given a sworn statement in the matter and is expected to be cross-examined by Senior Counsel Dr Claude Denbow, the TCL’s lead attorney.

The Jamaican government is also being represented by Solicitor General, Douglas Leys, and Candice Rochester.

Last month, the CCJ granted special leave to TCL to start legal proceedings as a private entity against CARICOM.

TCL is seeking to get the court to quash the decisions of the CARICOM Council of Trade and Economic Development (COTED) and the Secretary General with respect to the suspension of the Common External Tariff (CET) on cement.
