Boys’, Girls’ Champs start today

St Jago High have surged into the early lead in the girls’ section on the first day of action of the Grace Kennedy/Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships at the National Stadium.



The Spanish Town-based school has so far tallied 18 points after two finals, nine ahead of St Elizabeth Technical High School, STETHS, and Manchester High on nine points each.



Defending champions Holmwood Technical are in fourth place on eight points and Wolmers in fifth on seven points.



The day’s first final, the Girls’ Triple Jump Open, went to Rochell Farquharson of STETHS with a leap of 12 point seven to zero metres.



St Jago’s Tanya Bryan finished second with a leap of 12 point three to four and Shanieka Thomas was third with a leap of 12 point two to nine metres.



Sheena Powell of Manchester High won the Girls’ Discus Class Three final with a throw of 36 point nine to six metres. Kellion Knibb of St Jago was second with a throw of 36 point three to five metres and Samanthia Johnson of Immaculate finished third with a throw of 31 point five to eight metres.



The Girls’ Class One Long Jump and the Boys’ Class One Long Jump, the lone final in the boys’ section, are also scheduled for today’s first day.
