Reggae Boyz to open Gold Cup
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz and Canada will meet in the first match of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup on July 3 at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.
The game is the first of a double header at the stadium. Costa Rica and El Salvador will face off in the second game of the 12-team championships.
Jamaica, Canada, Costa Rica and El Salvador are drawn in Group ‘A’.
Two-time defending champions United States will face Honduras, Haiti and Grenada in Group ‘B’.
The Americans will open against Grenada on July 4 in Seattle.
Mexico were put in Group ‘C’ along with Nicaragua, Panama and Guadeloupe and will play their opening match on July 5 against the Nicaraguans in San Francisco.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals along with the two best third-place teams.
The Gold Cup final is scheduled for July 26 at Giants Stadium outside New York.
