Two records broken at Champs

Defending girls’ champions Holmwood Technical have taken the lead on today’s second day of the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletic Championships at the National Stadium.



After five finals Holmwood have surged to 40 points, 20 ahead of main rival Edwin Allen on 20. First day leaders St Hugh’s High are in third place on 19 points, while Wolmer’s, Vere Technical and St. Jago are joint fourth on 18 points.



In the Boys’ race, Kingston College, who finished third and fifth in the Pole Vault Open, lead the standings with 22 points, five ahead of second place Wolmer’s High on 17. Jamaica College are third on 14 points, followed by defending champions Calabar on seven and St George’s on four.



Janeize Russell of Holmwood accounted for the first record of Championships by winning the class three girls high jump final.



Russell clears one point seven to seven meters to give Holmwood the lead.



Edwin Allen’s Kimberly Williamson equal the old mark of one point seven to four meters to finish second while Shanice Porter of Manchester High was third clearing one point 65 meters.



Tamara Moncrieffe of Holmwood won the Girls’ Class Four Long Jump final with a leap of five point three to zero metres; while K’Don Samuels of Jamaica College took the Pole Vault Open with a record jump of four point four to five metres.
