Calabar move up six points

Defending champions Calabar High have moved within six points of leaders Kingston College as the race for the boys’ title heats up on today’s third day of the four-day ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships at the National Stadium.



With six boys’ finals completed, the Michael Russell-coached Kingston College lead the way with 53 points, with Calabar in second on 50 after starting the day 17 points behind in third place.



The top five is completed by Jamaica College on 43, Wolmer’s 30 and Bridgeport on 14.



Calabar took first and fourth in the Boys’ Class Two Final this morning to gain 14 valuable points, while Kingston College finished sixth.



Ashinia Miller won the gold medal with a record throw of 17.41metres, while Johnathan Lynford of St George’s College took the silver with a throw of 15.51.



In the race for the Girls’ title, reigning champions Holmwood Technical have now surged to 64 points after eight finals following a one-two finish in the Girls’ Open Javelin Throw final.



Shakeisha Miller won with a throw of 36.88 metres, ahead of teammate Cassandra Bennett who recorded 35.56 metres.



Holmwood lead first day leaders St Hugh’s by 24 points. St. Hugh’s are on 40 followed by Edwin Allen 34, St. Jago 29 and Wolmers 21.
